ABC

ABC

The kings of Eighties orchestral pop, led by Martin Fry — "The Lexicon Of Love" and a million records sold. Celebrating 45 years in 2027.

ABC has enjoyed a glittering career to date. Very definitely one of several groups who came along and kick-started the Eighties with their own brand of pop for a 'new decade'.

ABC, led by charismatic singer Martin Fry, formed in Sheffield in the 1980s. They wanted to fuse the world of disco funk with their own unique new romantic, post-punk vision. ABC's debut 'The Lexicon Of Love' went to No 1 and sold over a million records. To date, ABC have released nine studio albums: 'The Lexicon Of Love' (1982), 'Beauty Stab' (1983), 'How To Be A Zillionaire' (1985), 'Alphabet City' (1987), 'Up' (1989), 'Abracadabra' (1991), 'Skyscraping' (1997), 'Traffic' (2008) and 'The Lexicon of Love II' (2016).

"ABC's Martin Fry is a revelation, a soul man supreme, belting out pristine Vegas glitter pop and uptown House in his electric blue lounge suit. An ageless performer, Fry is the missing link between Bryan Ferry and Jarvis Cocker." — Stephen Dalton, NME

ABC celebrate 45 years in 2027; Selwyn Sounds is thrilled to have ABC, who continue to sell out all over the world.

Celebrating 50 years of making classic Kiwi music, with a live album and a documentary in the pipeline, Hello Sailor is looking forward to an exciting 2027.

From their student roots in 1970s bohemian Ponsonby — influenced by 1950s Beat literature, The Velvet Underground, The Rolling Stones and Tamla, Stax and Atlantic funk — they emerged playing original music that referenced their surroundings.

Harry Lyon: "In 1975 Dave and I moved into an old square-fronted villa at 520 Queen Street… It was where we started getting Hello Sailor together as a band ready to play in public. Fast forward 50 years and we no longer have Dave or Graham, but we're dedicated to keeping their music and memory alive."

In recent years Hello Sailor have shared stages with the cream of Kiwi music, playing to over 70,000 people, supported 10cc on their NZ tour, and toured with Nazareth and Dire Straits Legacy. Powered by the rhythm section of Rick Ball (drums) and Paul Woolright (bass), with Harry Lyon on lead vocals, Jimmy Taylor on guitar and Stephen Small on piano and saxophone, their shows feature Hello Sailor, Pink Flamingos and Graham Brazier favourites.
